Kilimanjaro 6 Days Marangu Route Itinerary

Day 1: Departure from Hotel/Office, Start of Hike from Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut

Your journey begins with an early departure from your hotel or office in Moshi or Arusha. After breakfast and a gear check, head to the Marangu Gate, the starting point of the Marangu Route. The trail leads you through lush rainforest, with towering trees and diverse flora creating a serene atmosphere. Keep an eye out for wildlife such as monkeys and birds along the way. Arrive at Mandara Hut (2,700 meters), your first campsite, where you'll settle in for the night and enjoy a delicious meal.

Day 2: Mandara Hut to Horombo

Hut Leave the rainforest behind as you ascend into the heath and moorland zone. The trail gradually steepens as you make your way towards Horombo Hut (3,720 meters), your next accommodation. Along the way, enjoy stunning views of the surrounding landscape, including valleys and rocky outcrops. Arrive at Horombo Hut, nestled on a plateau beneath towering peaks, where you'll spend the night and acclimatize to the increasing altitude.

Day 3: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut

Continue your ascent towards the summit, trekking through the alpine desert terrain. The trail becomes steeper as you climb higher, with rocky slopes and sparse vegetation. Arrive at Kibo Hut (4,703 meters), your final base camp before the summit attempt. Take time to rest and prepare for the challenging summit push ahead. Enjoy a hearty meal and an early night's sleep to conserve energy for the early morning start.

Day 4: Summit Day - Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak,

Descend to Horombo Hut Begin the summit attempt in the early hours of the morning, aiming to reach the summit before sunrise. Trek under the moonlight and stars, with your headlamp guiding the way. As you ascend, the air becomes thinner and the terrain more challenging. Reach Gilman's Point (5,681 meters), the rim of the crater, before continuing to Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters), the highest point in Africa. Celebrate your achievement and soak in the spectacular sunrise views before beginning the descent back to Kibo Hut. After a short rest, continue descending to Horombo Hut, where you'll spend the night.

Day 5: Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate

Descend through the heath and moorland zone, enjoying the downhill trek with views of Kilimanjaro's slopes and distant landscapes. Pass through Mandara Hut and continue towards Marangu Gate, where you'll complete park formalities and receive your summit certificates. Say goodbye to your guides and porters before transferring back to your hotel or office in Moshi or Arusha.

Day 6: Departure from Tanzania

Enjoy a final breakfast in Moshi or Arusha before departing for your next destination. Reflect on your Kilimanjaro adventure and the memories made during your journey to the Roof of Africa.
